Richard D. Lang was one of the founding partners of Baldini Lang LLC. Rich is a legal advisor to credit unions and an unwavering advocate for the credit union community. He is committed to providing clients with high-quality, low-cost legal services in an efficient and effective manner. With over 35 years of domestic and international legal and business experience in the financial services industry, Rich has a unique understanding of his clients’ legal, compliance, regulatory, and risk management needs.

Prior to forming Baldini Lang LLC, Rich was the Chief Ethics Officer at HSBC Bank in New York City, where he was responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a program in support of a strong ethical culture; updating and administering the code of ethics, advising senior management regarding ethics issues, trends, and best practices; and managing the anti-bribery & anti-corruption program.

Rich was previously the Acting General Counsel at Open Solutions Inc., where he was responsible for M&A, corporate governance, employment law, and managing all corporate litigation, client disputes, and billing collection actions. Rich led the company legal team in the successful $1 billion acquisition by Fiserv Inc.

Rich’s responsibilities as Chief Compliance Officer at Open Solutions included management of examinations by the FFIEC, NCUA, OCC, FDIC, and Federal Reserve. Rich also ensured compliance with consumer banking laws and regulations, and he coordinated all FDIC receivership activities relating to client banks during the height of the financial crisis. In addition, Rich managed Open Solutions’ data protection, information security, and privacy programs.

Prior to joining Open Solutions, Rich founded Lang Compliance & Ethics Consulting, which provided compliance and ethics program evaluation and litigation consulting services, and TheEthicsOffice.com, a complete, web-based compliance and ethics program for small businesses.

Before his consulting role, Rich was the Chief Ethics, Compliance & Privacy Officer at Unum Group, the largest disability insurance company in the United States. Rich joined Unum to design and implement a comprehensive compliance and ethics program in the wake of allegations (aired on 60 Minutes and Dateline broadcasts) regarding Unum’s disability insurance claims handling practices.

Rich began his legal career as an attorney at Travelers Insurance, where he worked in various legal and compliance roles, eventually being named, post-merger, General Counsel for Citigroup’s international insurance operations. Rich also served at various times as the Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Ethics Officer, Chief Privacy Officer, and Chief Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer for Travelers.

An honors graduate of Marquette University, Rich received his J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is a member of the Connecticut and South Dakota Bars.
